Japan coast guard discovered unknown submarine volcano, “1,600m diameter caldera with 10 craters”

On 6/27/2013, Japan coast guard announced they discovered an unknown submarine volcano in approximately 200km south of Kagoshima.

It was found in their submarine topography survey from this April to May.

It has been known there are several submarine hills around this region, but it has never been known before.

The newly found submarine volcano has 1,600 diameters caldera and 10 craters inside and outside of the caldera.

The depth of water was 453m in the deepest crater.

Japan coastal guard didn’t find the colored water, which is unique for submarine volcano. The volcanic activity is entirely not known.
