With the New Year—- many of us will start adding things up to decide if we are where we should be. The biggest questions we tend to ask ourselves as the ball goes down are——
1. Are we in the right job ?
2. Do we live in the right place?
3. Are we with the right person?
Of course, economic factors can stop us from making the decisions we’d like to make concerning our jobs and our homes. So, if we are intent on Shuffling the Deck just to get a New Hand–-then we usually start looking at ending our current relationships and starting new ones.
Sometimes, we desire a change just to make a change. And so, we can easily look at our relationships in a negative way and decide that it’s time to move on. Some people, who get less and less comfortable as their lover gets to know more & more about them are the most likely to end a relationship for the slightest of reasons——–And the New Year can be one of those reasons.
After all, the most famous song and lyrics surrounding us at this time of year is —–”
Should old acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot?
And days of Auld Lang Syne”
As Billy Crystal exclaimed in “When Harry Met Sally”—-”I never understood what this song is about”. Well, whether you think we should remember people or forget people the song tells us that we will move on and survive with mixed emotions. And as Dan Fogelberg sang in “Same Old Lang Syne”, when we do move on we remember our former lovers with tears and pain.
For sure, most of us hope to find a relationship that will endure for a lifetime. But, most of the relationships we will have in our lives will be short lived and many run their course around this time of year. When our relationships end it’s sort of like a nice piece of candy turns sour in our mouths.
Endings are sour!
But, remember——there is likely another sweet relationship coming your way——so don’t isolate, get out there and smile when you say –Hello!
And —Take a listen to “Sour Candy” by Carly Rae Jepsen & Josh Ramsay
