Audiobooks are convenience taken to another level altogether. If you are not strict about the way you consume your books (reading ebook/books), then audiobooks are a perfect solution for you to get some reading done in these busy times. Say, if you have to travel to work everyday for an hour. The commute can be less boring and more productive by an audiobook. I would personally prefer them if they are read by a pleasant and distinct voice. Even if audiobooks are very convenient for your average busy person, there have not been significant efforts to promote the category so far in India. Reado is changing that. They claim to be India’s first and largest audiobooks brand and they have recently launched their website for selling audiobooks online.
Reado says in their press release that they have seen 5000 sign-ups since its launch. This is a good figure for a start and the company hopes to reach 1,00,000 in the coming 6 months. The website allows users to browse through the available audiobooks and download them in MP3 format which can then be played on any device that supports the format, which means almost all devices. One good thing about the service is that it is DRM free and allows usage across multiple devices. Also once you buy a audiobook, it is your forever.
The website is well designed and offers a simple way of browsing for the books that you want. Currently, the website has 150+ audiobooks which feature classics, contemporary fiction and non-fiction. Categories include Children’s Literature, Management, Business, Classics, Non Fiction, Health & Fitness, Self Help and Biographies. Popular titles include Kamasutra by Vatsayana, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (all parts) by Arthur Connan Doyle, Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carol, The Immortals of Meluha by Amish Tripathi,Losing My Virginity and Other Dumb Ideas by Rashmi Bansal, Get Into Bed with Google by John Smith, God Save the Dork by Sidin Vadukut, Road To Riches by Nepolean Hill and many others. There are many titles which will be added in the next few months.
The website also offers rewards on the audiobooks that you purchase. This is excellent as it gives a reader a reason to come back for more. The books are attractively priced and will be within reach of the average reader. On signup you get a Rs. 100 bonus which is nice. Although this kind of spend on customer acquisition has become very common in the e-commerce space, Reado’s Rs. 100 is much more reasonable than Jabong’s Rs. 2000 signup discount. Reado also offers it audiobooks through Flipkart and other offline outlets like Crossword, Landmark, Reliance Time Out, Om Book Shop etc.
Sumit Suneja, CEO and Founder, Reado Audiobooks spoke about the new website.
“We at Reado are striving towards establishing audiobooks as a part of our digital lifestyles therefore making it easily accessible through our newly launched e-portal. India is a highly potent market for audiobooks and the demand is increasing considerably. With the launch of our e-portal, we are aiming towards an organic growth as a brand which will benefit us in the years to come.”
Reado has cultivated strategic partnerships with publishing biggies like Penguin Books India, Hachette, Harvard Business Review Press, Roli Publications, Brilliance Audio, Gildan Media, Audible.com, Samsung and Simon & Schuster. This will help them get audiobook rights for the most of the bestsellers that will come out from these publications. Reado produces these audiobooks with the help of professionals in Delhi and Mumbai across 6 studios.
I liked the website and the offerings on display. You should check it out too. Let us know how you like it.
