Developer Bioware and EA have announced that a new chapter in Dragon Age saga is in development. The third game in the series will be titled Dragon Age 3: Inquisition, and it will be released in 2013 fall. The publisher also confirmed that the game will be developed using a new engine along with EA’s proprietary Frostbite 2, and the team behind Dragon Age Origins is working on it.
The game was confirmed at publisher’s official blog along with an open letter from Bioware’s Mark Darrah in which he explains that it is not our intention to hide the fact that the game is indeed in production, especially after rumors spread across the web that EA is testing for Dragon Age 3.
The details are sketchy as Darrah refused to reveal anything about the games plot, but he did mention that they are currently working on a new engine which they believe will allow them to deliver a more expensive world, enhanced graphics and extra reactivity to player choices along with more customization options. Darrah further added that at this year PAX East Bioware talked about armor and followers and that level of customization was only made possible by utilizing Frostbite 2 as a foundation for its new engine.
Dragon Age 3: Inquisition has been in development for almost two years now mentions Aaryn Flynn, General Manager of Bioware’s Edmonton and Montreal studios. Aaryn also stated that the development team has really paid attention to the fans feedback from the previous titles and this time around they aim to give fans what they want – a great story with choices that matter, a massive world to explore, deep customization and combat that is both tactical and visceral.
No platforms for the game were mentioned in the announcement; however it is safe to assume that the game will be available for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
