Mobile Express: A Mobile Signature Solution Offered By MobMe
Everything and everyone is going mobile. Right from banking to connecting with each other to shopping to playing games to working – the smart phone is quite easily the go-to work/play station. Hence, it was only a matter of time before a service that could authenticate you would be launched; an identity verification service that would allow you to authenticate and sign off any transaction.
MobMe Wireless Solution, a Kerala based value added service (VAS) company has partnered with Finland based Valimo, a mobile authentication and digital signature solution provider and Gemalto, a digital security company, to launch Mobile Signature Express. Mobile Signature Express is the first-ever mobile signature solution to be launched in India and it is to be made available for all handsets.
To provide this service that will enable you and me to authenticate documents, etc. with a legally binding signature, MobMe has made use of Valimo’s Mobile ID solution and Gemalto’s Up Teq PKI (Public Key Infrastucture) SIM cards. Mobile phone operators will be required to provide us with new SIM cards that have the requisite software, following which we will have to subscribe to start using this service.
MobMe claims that this solution features a two-factor authentication which ensures the proof of identity and also non- repudiation of transactions. This solution will be useful for e-government, financial, healthcare, and enterprise services that require strong user identification, authentication and authorisation.
I think the launch of this service is great news for us all as we are surely moving towards an era that calls for a more integrated use of mobile phones in our daily lives. Paying utility bills, signing off important documents, giving identity proof is only set to get easier and be available on-the-move.
