Google has released an updated version of its regular Transparency Report in order to gives users an idea about the number of requests that it receives from Governments across the world with respect to user accounts and user data.
User information requests have increased across the world by around 120% over the period of the last 4 years. USA is the top country when it comes to the number of data requests they send out to Google. India comes in fourth after France and Germany. Google compliance to all these requests is an average 64%.
Looking specifically at India, the Government requests coming in for the period of July to December 2013 come up to 2513. This is a slight decline compared to the previous cycle total of 2691. These 2513 instances have subrequests to user account data which total at 4401. These are not big changes and suffice it to say that the Indian Government has been pretty steady at maintaining the number of requests it sends out over the last year and 2012. The year before that, 2011 saw a substantial increase in the number of requests made by the Indian Government. Google’s compliance rate to the requests for the July-Dec. 2013 time period is 66% which is 2% higher than the global average.
