Remember that series of posts I was going to do about my past alien abduction experiences-? Yeah, I didn't forget.
So! I had read Intruders and Communion both by the end of the summer of '88 (either before camp or on trips home I assume, because I KNOW I didn't bring those books to camp with me.) Knowing other people had these sorts of experiences was mildly reassuring, as far as I was fairly certain I wasn't crazy– however, knowing these were real was also horrifying. That first summer as a camp counselor was a difficult one, with “sleep walking” episodes, panic attacks– especially when we did primitive camping out in the boonies on overnights, and easy tears.
Still, by fall and the end of camp and beginning of community college I was a little better. As I've said before, curiosity was beginning to war with fear, and sometimes it won out for short bursts of time. I loathed my fear, and would try to desperately combat it by facing it head on. I watched horror movies alone in the dark all through my teens (and found few of them as scary as my own life, actually.) I still couldn't sleep at night, but now I dared myself to read another one of Budd's books, Missing Time while passing those dark hours away. It made me a bit more paranoid than usual, but I enjoyed a feeling of conquest for reading these terrifying things and remaining calm.
Sometime in late September of 1988 (as I wrote in my paper journal at the time) it was only my second night of reading this tome when something strange happened. I had been reading only a half hour or so when I heard a high pitched beeping. Not the tone you sometimes hear from the cilia in your ears causing tinnitus or that occasional pressure-change feedback sound (can you tell I've really looked into this?) No, THIS was a “beep beep beep beep beep….” — strangest of all, it seemed to be coming from my right EYE! (Remember- the one that got removed by the greys when I was 11?)
Instantly alert, I sat up in bed and looked around the room– it stopped. So I started to read and it started up again. What the hell!? Fighting panic, I experimented quickly, and discovered that whatever source of sound was beeping from my right eye region would only go off if I looked at words in the book on alien abductions! I moved the book into different lines of sight, and no matter where it was, my eye area seemed to beep! In addition, an annoying tiny dot of blue light was also in my visual field, slightly to the right of my central line of sight. (I've had THAT off and on since age 11 as well…) If I looked away from the book, no matter what direction, the beeping stopped completely. Look at book– beep beep beep! Look away– silence! I dropped the book, breathing heavily.
As soon as I did, the plum tree outside my bedroom started to lash about wildly– making quite a racket. I was surprised, as there was NO wind that night– perhaps a thunderstorm? But such things aren't common in the NW to begin with, let alone at night in September. It was a puzzle.
Quietly, I crept to the single window in my room for a closer look outside– but I couldn't see a thing as the bedroom light was on, only a reflection. So I ran to the light switch to turn it off, and then back to the window again.
Looking out, I saw absolutely nothing unusual in the sky, but the eves over the window made looking up very well rather difficult. However, something else was very wrong– only the plum tree was moving! There was NO WIND! The other trees I saw were perfectly still. That made NO sense, unless…. and horror once again took over my world. They didn't want me to read books about them, and this was some sort of elaborate warning, apparently! What other conclusion could I come to given the circumstances? [Nowadays I recognize such an action, not as a warning to stop reading about them, but as a confirmation that they are real and near-by, but I was new at figuring them out in those days.]
I ran to flip the lights back on and began to screech bloody murder. And I mean SCREECH. I called for my mother like a small child. It took over 10 minutes of freaking out (I watched the clock) and my sister never awoke– before my mother did show up blurrily at my door. The entire time the plum tree whooshed back and forth very violently and I screamed and screamed. Mother reached the doorway and the plum tree just abruptly stopped moving– much to my relief and consternation! I explained to my mother what had just happened and she insisted it was “just a nightmare” as she did when scary things happened to me as a child. Yet I was standing up, moving around– screaming… talk about denial of reality! She then told me to go back to sleep, turned around, and went back to bed.
Thanks Mom. My hero… < --[Sarcasm, in case you didn't catch that.]
But not I. I went downstairs to the back yard. Looking around using the porch light and a flash light, I could see debris and broken branches from the plum tree littering the ground. No other tree had any such evidence around it. But seeing the physical effects of what I had just been through lying strewn at my feet prevented me from falling into my mother's denial process. The next day I showed all the debris to my mother as it left the entire back yard (a small fenced-in area) a total mess. She had nothing to say about it, and so I cleaned it up, silently shaking my head.
Since that day, I have never heard a beeping from my eye again. I've been seeing that blue dot for a long time, however! Its oval and kind of a dutch blue color. I have come to assume, given the upload experiences, that somehow they have a very miniature camera in or behind my right eye– maybe connected to my brain, I don't know. They can see what I see I think whenever that blue dot pops “on.” Some days I rarely see it. Other days it seems to come on for 2 minutes every hour. As a joke, when it comes on and I'm talking to someone, if they already know about it, I'll say, “SMILE! You're on alien camera!” and often my husband or friend will make a face.
If you missed it, this is the post where I discuss when this camera got inserted:
