Off grid living - Step #1 get some land
Off grid living, it seems more and more people today are starting to scale back their expenses
and level of spending. Want to know some great ways to save money and maybe go off grid?
Read this blog because in this series I going to give you the ten steps to go off grid,
This change in attitudes of Americans has lead to new ways of thinking about what really is
important and what we can leave behind. Gone are the days where everyone just wants to
spend, spend, spend with no thought about tomorrow. Gone are the days where we believe our
homes will just keep increasing in value because the recession of 2008 took care of that
crazy notion.
No, today we are looking to cut back and the extreme (though I don’t think it really is) end of this
spectrum is the movement to go off grid. What is off grid you ask? Well simply put it is a lifestyle
of less reliance on outside support. It is a movement of self-sufficiency that is embraced as a real
feeling of freedom.
In this blog series we will examine what it takes to go “off grid” and some of the steps that are
necessary so lets move forward with number 1.
Step #1 Get some land
The number one step we need to take a look at is a place to do this off grid living. Quite simply put,
we need land. No we are not looking for a lot in a neighborhood, rather we want a piece of land that
is far away from traffic, neighbors, stores and crowds. We want a piece of land that we can have our
privacy on and live without the prying eyes of next-door neighbors. The ideal spots tend to be in rural
low cost parts of the country, which is great for us. The land could be on a remote desert area in Arizona or the
mountains of Virginia or North Carolina. Maybe you want to live in the mid west or in the south. There still is a lot of
really unspoiled land that can be had for a very low cost if you are willing to do a little work. There are now Internet sites
that cater to those who are searching for the perfect get-a-way such as landandfarm.com, landwatch.com and
landflip.com. All of these sites give you the opportunity to find that perfect piece of secluded land that can be far away
from crowds.
You can search by price, location and many other criteria. Check them out and I am sure it will wet
your appetite to pursue this further. Thanks for reading our blog and please join me in the next blog.
The next blog will look at the fad that is sweeping the country now “small homes” These are homes
that generally are under 400 square feet. You have seen them, those tine little houses that people
are building everywhere. I will share with you how to get the plans, how to build these homes and
point you to the places where you can get all the information you need.
