‘They Make Us Look Like Fools’: Trump Slams Obama’s Iran Deal In Fiery Rally Address
Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump was among the high-profile critics of the Iranian nuclear agreement to address a large crowd gathered for Wednesday’s rally at the U.S. Capitol. The bold businessman wasted no time exposing the perceived folly of the controversial deal.
“So, I’ve been doing deals for a long time,” he said. “I’ve been making lots of wonderful deals, great deals; that’s what I do. Never, ever, ever in my life have I ever seen any transaction so incompetently negotiated as our deal with Iran.”
While he deferred to other speakers – including fellow GOP presidential contender Ted Cruz – when it came to the deal’s specific foreign policy shortcomings, Trump focused on one recurring complaint.
“We can talk about the fact that we have four wonderful people over there,” he said of the U.S. hostages not addressed by negotiators, “and frankly, they’re never going to come back with this group. And I will say this: If I win the presidency, I guarantee you that those four prisoners are back in our country before I ever take office. I guarantee that.”
Trump also lamented Barack Obama’s apparent capitulation to Iranian leaders’ demands.
“Our president is calling the person who is really the boss in Iran ‘Supreme Leader,’” he said. “And I look at people shaking their heads; they can’t believe it.”
He noted that Iran’s response has been to continue threatening Israel’s existence while celebrating the nuclear agreement as a victory.
“So, they rip us off, they take our money, they make us look like fools,” he said. “And now they’re back to being who they really are. They don’t want Israel to survive. They will not let Israel survive with incompetent leadership like we have right now. Israel will not survive.”
Trump concluded by reiterating his contention that America is being led by “very, very stupid people,” explaining that the nation cannot afford to allow that trend to continue.
