Days after three passers-by intervened to protect a Florida deputy being beaten by a suspect, video footage emerged of a Texas law enforcement officer saved by a citizen just seconds before a potentially deadly collision.
A Montgomery County cruiser’s dashboard camera picked up the close call, which happened during a traffic stop Tuesday in Porter. Footage released by multiple media sources this week begins with the final moments of what was reportedly as a lengthy interaction between deputy constables and the driver.
When the detained driver noticed a speeding vehicle on a collision course with the officers, he quickly corrals them to safety.
The dashboard camera then films a high-speed chase ending with the arrest of Anthony Joel Shelton and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.
Shelton is facing three felony charges, including aggravated assault on a public servant, and was jailed on $131,000 bond.

In the unrelated traffic stop during which the close call occurred, a deputy constable was injured while pursuing a passenger who reportedly fled on foot into nearby woods after the vehicle was pulled over.
The passenger was subsequently arrested for possession of marijuana and evading police. The injured deputy was admitted to a local hospital in stable condition with an unspecified knee injury.
There were no other injuries reported during the traffic stop or intervening pursuit.
