After a long wait, renowned smartphone manufacturer Microsoft has started to roll out firmware updates for selected Lumia devices, bringing added support for 4G connectivity. Previously, Microsoft made sure that Lumia devices support 4G, but it will be unlocked only after a certain period of time.
The new update is bringing 4G connectivity to selected Lumia devices that support LTE from the beginning, but were locked on the software side due limited availability of 4G in India. Now, India’s LTE networks are growing at a great pace, and thus an OTA update has been pushed for bringing LTE support on popular Lumia devices including, Lumia 1520, Lumia 1320, Lumia 930, Lumia 920, Lumia 925, Lumia 830, and Lumia 625. After updating the firmware, users can switch to 4G connectivity by using the mobile data setting option. The update is currently limited to above mentioned devices only, but is expected to move towards other Lumia smartphones in near future.
The update is rolling out in batches, and might take slight amount of time in reaching all the units. Microsoft devices will get a push notification when the update is available, but if its not yet available, users can check for it manually by going into update option available in phone settings.
Along with this update, the popular technology giant is also preparing for the global launch of Windows 10 OS. The biggest launch from Microsoft is just on its way, and users are expecting to see the finest operating system that would cover several devices and form factors in just one go. Several features will ship with the latest version of Windows, but app portability will be a major highlight, that would bring a bigger selection of apps on the upgraded Windows Store.
