This is a common question we get at Before It’s News, with my reply below:
You OBVIOUSLY do not check the reliability of truth in what you post. You have MANY true posts ie. The Common Sense Show, however, MANY are ridiculously fabricated and stretch the truth and twist the facts. You are damaging the truth movement by not verifying your posts. I’ve heard Alex Jones question the reliability of your website and I notice Steve Quayle is careful and critical of what you post as well. There is no way GOD is leading you in this, you are being deceived…
John, thanks for taking the time to email us.
Our web site is operated differently than what most people consider to be a regular news site. This is a news hosting website and the stories that make it to the front page do so based on popularity. Anyone is welcome to post a story. The door is wide open here at Before It’s News and there’s no other place on the internet I know of where anyone can come in off the street, post a story and get it in front of a huge audience. This concept of a truly free web site doesn’t really exist many places anymore.
We don’t screen ANYTHING on the site, except for Terms of Service violations and when people complain.
It’s You Tube for news. That’s all it is.
Yes, some stories might stretch the truth and some might not even be true. You can say the same thing for mainstream news outlets, can’t you? It’s up to you and our audience to select the good stories.
The purpose of our site is to get people to THINK and figure out for themselves what is true. We know that’s out of fashion….
You also need to keep in mind that if a site had only the hardest hitting stories, that contain leaked information, how long do you think that site would be able to operate?
Because we don’t control who posts, we get stories from insiders who know what’s really happening as well as some stories that might be from various security agencies as a form of pysops.
For example, we got a call 4 hours before the big announcement that Bin Laden was killed. The caller (now deceased) also said that Bin Laden had really been dead for ten years and this was why they weren’t showing the body, etc.
You’ll have to read the comments and decide for your self what’s real. Often times, the comments are better than the stories.
We thank you for visiting and sharing your comments
“the stories that make it to the front page do so based on popularity”
That’s called a white lie, Mike.
The people who’ve been here longest – those you profit most from – know the workings here.
Some of your more ‘popular’ contributors have stories that go from zero to over a hundred views in a matter of seconds after the initial posting. And as a regular contributor to the comment section here for the last few years, it’s obvious that that kind of traffic is unrealistic and manipulated.
You elevate, and pay, certain contributors which means that your website advocates for a particular message.
I understand that you have to feed the family, but do you actually know the message this website presents, or do you turn the other way?
…how is a Geir Smith article getting upwards of 20,000 views when he disables the comments?!?
The comments are the only reason he gets views, because he gets made fun of so much. He has a fan base of zero!
I suspect some numbers are being fudged…
(Why would you even employ a clinical lunatic like Mr. Smith? It says a lot about the operation you inherited here.)
I’m 100% in agreement with Scanner here.
There is a simple reason, get 500 PI boxes, fake the IP, run a script loading the url in the epiphany browser. An entire sites top 50 articles are then ranked in popularity as you choose.
The BIN system is simply incompetence taken advantage of. Now If each page was ranked not on accessed material but on persons who signed in to view the content ?.
It’s easier than that. Open 10 tabs in one browser and another 10 in another browser, use an auto refresh addon and set for 10 seconds on either browser. That gives you 60 ‘views’ per minute. That combined with the 10 tabs in other browser also gives 20 viewers at one time which is usually enough to get you at least halfway up most current viewed list. Go make some lunch, have a cuppa and 1 hour later you have over 3600 ‘views’. A catchy headline, a stock image and a couple of lines of text and hey presto a you’re an internet journalist. See my articles for a few examples
It would be a great improvement to the site to identify the reporter with the headline to spare us from being tricked into clicking on those sites that “will make our jaw drop” if you know what I mean.
Just hover the pointer over the headline to see the author.
Because we live in an apostate age. Minds are fill with lies and half truths.
You just gotta learn which contributors suck.
I won’t even click on a Lyn (Fear porn) leahz story.
I’m sick of them hashing and re-hashing old stories as if there was some new development. But, noooooo…..It’s the same of crap just like the news on tv. I try to avoid clicking on Lyn and Leah links anymore, because it’s the same damn crap that says not much of anything that I don’t already know.
I have to comment on a couple of contributors to this site, I think we know who they are with out using names. For the life of me how do they continue to be in the top ten and the fake posts remain at the #1 spot for days? The “news” they post is fear porn and not very good at that. I was one to check the posts out at 1st but quickly came to the conclusion that what I was reading was garbage. It is the reason that this site has a bad rep. I have to say though I come to this site to get news and it has been good in that regard. I guess you have to filter the facts from outright lies. anyone who uses caps and !!!! in the title of the post has to be suspect, I myself tried to post an article worked on it for 5-6 hours provided links and researched the opinion of the author I was writing about, yet my post did not make the cut I guess and never got a reply. I wonder if my mistake was not using caps and !!!! in the title.
People powered news has so many fake stories because there are so many fake people.
It is not the responsibility of the site to check the veracity of the contributors posts, any more than a publishing company is responsible for the actuality of the contents of it’s books. That responsibility is down to the reader, which means the reader will have to make some effort to research (to search again) and to think critically, something a lot of people just can’t be bothered to do.
I think this is because the would be controllers of our world have developed a culture of fear and ignorance, out of their own fear and ignorance.
Thank you for the explanation. I fear, though, that some of the more exotic stories could initiate crime, suicide, or some other untoward end.
