Nokia Launches Asha 205 With Dedicated Facebook Button

(Before It's News)

Nokia has announced its latest phone in the Asha series, dubbed the Nokia Asha 205. It comes with a Facebook button built in, which allows for quick access to the social network. This has been done before by HTC  for its disastrously named ChaCha and Salsa phones.

Slam is a Nokia exclusive feature which allows users to share content with nearby friends. Slam works with Bluetooth but doesn’t require the additional effort of pairing devices. In what could be called a brilliant move, it doesn’t even require that the other phones that you are sharing with, need to have Slam installed. Nokia says that this will make information and content travel faster without the need to consume Internet data. Well that maybe true, but Bluetooth works only until a certain distance. So, you can only ‘slam’ your content to people who are nearby. If you want your content to be seen by everyone then you better put it up on the Internet.

As for the phone, it is being labelled as the ultimate social phone by Nokia. Besides the stylish design, it has a tactile QWERTY keyboard and has been priced pretty competitively at Rs. 3499. It is a dual SIM phone and thus for that price segment, you can call it a pretty cool social phone because it comes with eBuddy, Facebook, Twitter and Gmail. It has the new Nokia Xpress Browser which compresses browsing data by 85%, according to Nokia. The company has also added a mobile web app called Nokia Nearby which lists down 7 million ‘points of interest’ like ATMs, restaurants etc. The phone comes with 40 free Games from EA. Idea Cellular get Facebook browsing free for 3 months.

The Facebook app that the phone runs is Facebook For Every Phone which came out of Facebook’s acquisition of Snaptu. Facebook partnering with Nokia for the 205 makes sense because Facebook is looking at India and other emerging countries like Brazil to boost its user base into the next billion. This phone is affordable and has a nice set of features for those Indians who have not had an experience with mobile Internet yet.

The phone will be available from December 24th onwards.
