After a long-wait, the limited-edition variant of Redmi 2 has been launched in Indian market, Redmi 2 Prime. It’s the first India-made smartphone from Xiaomi, and has been exclusively manufactured at its joint facility in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The smartphone features improved RAM and ROM capabilities, and will be coming at Rs. 6,999 which is slightly above Redmi 2.
In terms of specifications, the improved Redmi 2 Prime looks completely identical to the original Redmi 2 launched earlier in March. It sports a 4.7-inch HD IPS display with a pixel density 312ppi, and powers up by the same 64-bit Snapdragon 410 chip clocked at 1.2GHz, clubbed with 2GB of RAM (previously 1GB). The rear camera of this device is an 8-megapixel shooter with autofocus, f/2.2 aperture, and LED flash, and front-facing camera 2-megapixel snapper with video capturing support up to 720p. It runs Android KitKat-based MIUIv6 out-of-the box, and offers 16GB of on-board storage, further expandable by up to 32GB with microSD card. The built-in memory packed with original Redmi 2 was restricted only up to 8 gigs.
On the connectivity front, the upgraded Redmi 2 Prime goes completely in line with its original version. The dual-sim device packs 4G support on both micro sim slots, and comes with a bunch of options including, 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.0, Global positional system, USB OTG, and microUSB 2.0. It supports Band 40 and Band 3 LTE networks currently deployed in India, and packs smooth browsing experience on 3G, 4G, and Wi-Fi networks. Several sensors and a 3.5mm audio jack also play significant part in enhancing connectivity options on this Snapdragon powered device.
In terms of physical dimensions, enhanced Redmi 2 Prime looks completely similar to the original variant. It weighs around 133 grams, is barely 9.4mm thick from the side, and features the same 2200mAh battery for standard backup on routine or core-usage. Moreover, it will be coming in same Black and Dark Grey avatars like Redmi 2, and will hit the shelves exclusively via Mi.com and all ecommerce partners including, Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal from today.
The improved Redmi 2 Prime comes at a decent price tag, and will be going straight against Canvas Xpress 2 and Yureka Plus, and other budget smartphones rolling in the market.
