Samsung: Think Carefully About What You Say Within Earshot of Smart TVs

(Before It's News)

Big Brother

Unbeknownst to most Americans and thanks to technology, we are living in a police state right now that is unprecedented thus far throughout all of previously recorded human history, and the lucky for us, our ship’s captain, His Highness’s Royal Ass Barack Obama, has proven time and again to be a horrible steward of your inalienable constitutional rights. Guess what? He alienates them whenever he damn well pleases.

To some people, keeping gimmicks like Siri permanently on OFF, or NEVER willingly allowing a “Smart TV’s” mic to be in the “on” position are common sense, but to others that might sound paranoid. To make a point, the first video shows you what the government was doing 7-8 years ago, which is about 100 years in technology terms.

Ok, now that it’s ridiculously clear how easy the government CAN spy on you considering the technology they were using years ago to listen to cell phones even when they were off, let’s further examine why you should never turn “on” the mic in any of your smart devices. I might even make the argument why you should go in and clip the mic out of those devices all together. As you continue to read, keep the following in mind that comes from the post titled: The Department Of Justice Prepares To Step Up War On “Domestic Extremists:”

We all know, in Obamaland there is no such thing as Islamic extremism, but there is such a thing as Tea Party Patriots that are a risk to national security. Don’t take my word for it. In a 2012 Department of Defense training manual, obtained by Judicial Watch via a FOIA request, Obama’s DHS, the same DHS that has an arsenal of 12 BILLION HOLLOW POINT BULLETS I might add, has defined a “domestic extremist” as:

“Americans who are ‘reverent of individual liberty,’ and ‘suspicious of centralized federal authority’ are possible ‘extreme right-wing’ terrorists.

The document linked above also lists people who embrace “individual liberties” and honor “states’ rights,” among other characteristics, as potential “extremists” who are likely to be members of “hate groups.”

Finally, the document goes on to call the Founding Fathers, “extremists.”

Now that you know Obama has literally outlawed just about everything American, how do you feel about smart devices listening to you while you’re in your private home? It’s hardly JUST smart devices listening to you either. As the video below points out, if you have Facebook Messenger installed on your phone, in the terms and conditions, you’ve granted Facebook the right to record you at any time, for any reason, doing anything, whether you are using the app or not.

They can record your calls… everything, It hardly ends there. Facebook also tracks every keystroke, so even things you delete, THEY still have on file. For example, you’ve had a few too many one night, and let’s say you write your boyfriend or girlfriend a real nasty message, but then just prior to sending the message, you come to your senses, and you delete it… Guess what? It’s not gone. Facebook has it.

If only the unethical behavior ended there, maybe you could live with it right? Well, you might want to think twice about leaving a laptop up while you’re changing, or staying away from any monitors with cameras. Why? Law enforcement has been known to use those cameras to spy on you, and they have a way of disabling the light so you have no way of knowing when you are being watched.

AND IT HARDLY ENDS THERE!

Most Americans know the CIA has been forbidden from operating domestically, but since when does the US government let anything like a few laws get in their way right? In an epic slip up back in 2012, while still Director of the CIA, David Petraeus may as well have said he cannot wait to spy on you through smart devices when he made the comment to Wired magazine that the CIA would spy on you through your dishwasher. Petraeus said:

“Items of interest will be located, identified, monitored, and remotely controlled through technologies such as radio-frequency identification, sensor networks, tiny embedded servers, and energy harvesters — all connected to the next-generation internet using abundant, low-cost, and high-power computing,” Petraeus said, “the latter now going to cloud computing, in many areas greater and greater supercomputing, and, ultimately, heading to quantum computing.”

All of the Petraeus incident was later covered on Fox News with Judge Napolitano. Check out the video below:

For a bit of clarification on how “smart devices” work, last year Wired Magazine wrote:

Marc Rotenberg, head of the Electronic Privacy Information Center, suspects most people don’t realize their audio goes online for processing. They think the device just “understands” their voice on its own. “I see a serious disconnect between how most consumers believe these devices operate and how they operate in fact,” he says. He’s likely right. Who expects a toaster to be tattling to Google?

To be fair, most of these devices record your voice only after you invoke their genielike wake-up phrase, as when you shout “Alexa” at Amazon’s Echo—a technique called “phrase spotting.”

[TO BE FAIR: YOUR LAPTOP CAMERA LIGHT SHOULD BE ON WHEN THE FEDS ARE SPYING ON YOU TOO!]

[HOW’S THAT WORKING OUT?]

These gadgets are not, the companies say, streaming your voice all day long. But it’d be good for the devices to provide very strong cues about when they are and aren’t recording. The voice-controlled robot Jibo, for example, has been designed to signal when it is actively listening: It slumps over when dormant and swivels its head when it’s alert. “We take these issues seriously,” Jibo CEO Steve Chambers says.

So, knowing what you know about THIS government, ESPECIALLY with Obama at the top, do you really want the government listening to you in your own private home? Remember, it’s not MY imagination or some “Conspiracy Theory” I made up… the director of the CIA made no effort to conceal the agencies intentions to spy on you using “smart devices.”

For anyone thinking, “I don’t do anything wrong, so I have nothing to hide,” then you win the prize. You are the biggest idiot of all. It’s amazing you’ve gotten this far in life. Let me sum up the stupidity of that line of thinking with one statement:

There are people who’s entire lives were DESTROYED by the IRS, simply for not believing the things Obama believed.

No matter what party you’re in, sooner or later the other party will be in power, so are you ok with the idea that when your party is not in power, the other party can DESTROY your life simply because you don’t agree ideologically? I didn’t think so. This has nothing to do with “having anything to hide.” This is about the 4th Amendment to Constitution which reads:

“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

As an American, you have a FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT not to be spied on by your government in the privacy of your own home, unless they have a warrant. People might actually know that if liberals in the Department of Indoctrination hadn’t made teaching the Constitution in school “optional” these days. Finally, if you have any doubts about the NSA’s ability to do the right thing, look at the list of links at the bottom. It got to the point I stopped keeping track, but I think you get the point.

Jake Anderson at Activist Post writes:

In a troubling new development in the domestic consumer surveillance debate, an investigation into Samsung Smart TVs has revealed that user voice commands are recorded, stored, and transmitted to a third party. The company even warns customers not to discuss personal or sensitive information within earshot of the device.

This is in stark contrast to previous claims by tech manufacturers, like PlayStation, who vehemently deny their devices record personal information, despite evidence to the contrary, including news that hackers can gain access to unencrypted streams of credit card information.

The new Samsung controversy stems from the discovery of a single haunting statement in the company’s “privacy policy,” which states:

Please be aware that if your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party.

This sparked a back and forth between the Daily Beast and Samsung regarding not only consumer privacy but also security concerns. If our conversations are “captured and transmitted,” eavesdropping hackers may be able to use our “personal or other sensitive information” for identity theft or any number of nefarious purposes.

There is also the concern that such information could be turned over to law enforcement or government agencies. With the revelation of the PRISM program — by which the NSA collected data from Microsoft, Google, and Facebook — and other such NSA spying programs, neither the government nor the private sector has the benefit of the doubt in claiming tech companies are not conscripted into divulging sensitive consumer info under the auspices of national security.

Michael Price, counsel in the Liberty and National Security Program at the Brennan Center for Justice at the NYU School of Law, stated:

I do not doubt that this data is important to providing customized content and convenience, but it is also incredibly personal, constitutionally protected information that should not be for sale to advertisers and should require a warrant for law enforcement to access.

Responding to the controversy, Samsung updated its privacy policy, named its third party partner, and issued the following statement:

Voice recognition, which allows the user to control the TV using voice commands, is a Samsung Smart TV feature, which can be activated or deactivated by the user. The TV owner can also disconnect the TV from the Wi-Fi network.

Under still more pressure, Samsung named its third-party affiliate, Nuance Communications. In a statement to Anti-Media, Nuance said:

Samsung is a Nuance customer. The data that Nuance collects is speech data. Nuance respects the privacy of its users in its use of speech data. Our use of such data is for the development and improvement of our voice recognition and natural language understanding technologies. As outlined in our privacy policy, third parties work under contract with Nuance, pursuant to confidentiality agreements, to help Nuance tailor and deliver the speech recognition and natural language service, and to help Nuance develop, tune, enhance, and improve its products and services.

We do not sell that speech data for marketing or advertising. Nuance does not have a relationship with government agencies to turn over consumer data…..There is no intention to trace these samples to specific people or users.

Nuance’s Wikipedia page mentions that the company maintains a small division for government and military system development, but that is not confirmed at this time.

Despite protestations from these companies that our voice command data is not being traced to specific users or, worse, stored for use by government or law enforcement agencies, it seems that when it comes to constitutional civil liberties, the end zone keeps getting pushed further and further down the field.

For years, technologists and smart device enthusiasts claimed webcam and voice recording devices did not store our information. While Samsung may be telling the truth about the use of that data, there are countless companies integrating smart technology who may not be using proper encryption methods and may have varying contractual obligations to government or law enforcement.

Is it really safe for us to assume that the now exceedingly evident symbiotic relationship between multinational corporations and government agencies does not still include a revolving door for the sharing of sensitive consumer data?

  • Any ‘Smart’ appliance will do the same thing along with your smartmeter on your house. I have Roku players in my home. My son got me a Roku stick for my birthday and there it was while I was registering it… You are allowing us to monitor your activities and shows and throw your privacy right out the window as a Roku customer! Yep, You might be surprised at all the permission you have given to people to basically stalk and monitor your every move.
It has to stop, Today.

    • ” I have Roku players in my home.”

Yes i have just caught on to them and you only get free streams of programs if you give them a credit card number.

Some of these Roko devices are as cheap as chips so they must be gettng money from spying on people so leave your routers firewall rules open during registration and then lock down the outbound rules afterwards to at least slow them down a bit.

Only a fool uses the free wifi boxes that your ISP gives you for free these days that don’t allow you to monitor of block outbound traffic

      • What do ya do? I dont have satellite or cable only a antenna. Alex Jones busted open a scientific atlanta cable box open on his show 15-20 years ago and showed us the camera and microphones in them then. Xbox mounted cameras have done the same thing for how many years now? Its not just Roku, Its Everything! Pull up to a red light and cameras are there watching you, Any store or restaurant you go to you are on camera. The only people we cant watch are the people watching Us on camera and it should be the other way around shouldnt it?

        • You can do lots of thing to slow them down like buying your own wifi-router like a Draytek and then block Google/Microsoft in the firewall rules but only allow odd IP-Addresses needed for Google search.

Running you own proxy server and DNS server that is hooked up to access lists also helps but you realy need these services hosted on a machine thats left on all day.

You also need to block all outbound UDP traffic on port 53 even if your DHCP server points DNS look-up’s back to your own hosted DNS server on the LAN because many devices cheat. Don’t forget to allow just your DNS server access on port 53.

I do all the above and more and slow them down by about 95% but even i cannot stop everything and would love to recomend a web-browser you should all be using, i cannot but i can tell you to steer well clear of firefox unless you are an expert on about:config settings

  • who cares

    • No one expects a NWO Dummy to care.

      They are too dumb.

    • I must be dumb to read your comment.

  • What is a smart TV? Matter of fact What is a TV?

  • can it make bread? if not it is worthless.

  • Whoop-de-doo. I can’t even read a movie review online without my fat face retard operative neighbor jumping out of his house declaring himself the “Winner”. Screaming and jumping up and down really loud like a total f**kface. I feel extremely sorry for his poor kids and animals. F**kface of the Year, maybe. That’s the kind of sh** that is controlling the world right now. I just want everyone to know. I know most of you don’t care. Fine and dandy. Don’t care. Just remember what I said when you ask yourselves why everything is so f’d up. Because evil, brain-dead, psychopath morons are running the world right now. I guess we deserve what we get.

    • Im intrigued, tell me more about your neighbor? He watches you online :?:

  • Havnt bothhered reading but PLAYSTATION 4 – XBOX ONE Are bad for it and everything needs a frikking Email account also. ALL IPHONES ALL TABLETS – ESPECIALLY ALL MICROSOFT COMPUTERS

  • Yes best post of the week here on B4IN

I was warning people about Samsung smart TV’s when the only one getting bad press about TV’s spying on people was LG thanks to the help of Google who gets paid to protect names.

When you’re Samsung is turned on it keeps sending this HTTP request

    GET /notice/config?svc_id=NEWSON&country_code=GB&lang=en HTTP/1.1
    Host: notice.samsungcloudsolution.com
    Accept: */*
DUID: H2XXXXFDSU5XXXXX <– Edited by me
    ModelID: 11_X12_2D
    Client: Info2013/1.0
    Accept-Encoding: gzip

In other posts it sends the TV's MAC address to Samsung and they can then look on records to see who owns the TV and this happens 2,0000 times a day.

Step two is for the Samsung TV to connect to every one from Google to Yahoo and facebook even why you have no apps open and the user agent in the request to these site inform them that the request on ip-address X.X.X.X is coming from a Samsung device.

Step three is google/facebook sends your IP-Adrress to Samsung and Samsung then returns all the information they know about you.

This is criminal but no politicians will stop them because they are all taking bribes from these corporations

    Him above says

XBOX ONE Are bad for it and everything needs a frikking Email account also.”

The O/S to Xbox one is pushed to the device by microsoft and the new version turns on a wifi hot spot ten time an hour for about 30 seconds at a time and then turns it back off and they are using a hidden wifi SSID so you don’t see it.

They are looking for MAC addreses of device that are polling for connections and upload these back to their servers and that includes mobile phones and the signal the XBox sends out is so strong that it forces some device to drop their connection.

Both the X-Box and the TV’s continue to upload data when not turned off by pulling the plug and they use encryption so no one can see whats hidden in the data, Samsung uses a type of SSL that i have never seen before when talking to Koreia

  • Don’t connect you tv to the internet and you have nothing to worry about, hopefully.

    • You seem to forget that it’s our internet and our freedom so why should we give it up.

I know it’s a waste of time making this reply because this thread is dead and gone but when a member post a reply it should get a few seconds back on the front page like in other forums but thats too cloged up with privladged posters or posts that are adverts pretending to be posts.

  • I agree, smart TV’s can certainly be used for spying.

But, “Obama’s DHS” come on. It’s Chertoff’s DHS and Obama is a just judas goat. He doesn’t make decisions, those who paid for him to be president with loftily campaign contributions make the decisions. That’s why he looks about 20 years older than he was just 8 years ago. Such is the case with most presidents following their term. Playing the devils advocate for 8 years will do that to ya, I guess. There hasn’t been a legitimate US president in decades, at least. Obama is a treasonous, lying scumbag, but that comes with the territory. Don’t expect much better from any of the choices this time around either. Anyone who tries to do their own thing will find themselves in a ‘grassy knoll” type scenario. The USG has been hijacked

    • When push comes to shove, it’s what? Roughly 330 million against 538?

I’m surprised the lamp posts are not filled with stretched ropes already.

  • My Samsung “Smart TV” does not have a button to turn off the microphone but i have been reporting for years about it spying on me.

I have even tried to Man-in-the-middle the HTTPS traffic but it’s unlike anything i have seen before because the TV connects to servers but does not send a connect message needed for the SSL hand-shake.

These TV’s send Samsung the TV’s MAC address and then connect to Facebook, Google, you know all the other USA/CIA fianced corporations and sends them a User-Agent so they know your IP address and know it’s a Samsung TV thats connecting to them and all this happens without even opening any apps and 20,000 times a day.

Google gets the request from the TV and then sends a message off to Samsung who knows who owns the TV because they hold the guarantee and now goolge has your name and address.
