Obama Disrespects Military (Again); While Naming Newest Navy Vessel
Upon doing some homework on how naval vessels are named, I learned that different types of ships have traditional conventions for naming new vessels, and others, including the Arleigh Burke class of destroyers have a more contemporary ship naming tradition. Just recently, a new Arleigh Burke class was given a new name, but first take a look at what the ship represents:

As I continued looking, I learned that every ship has a name, and every name has a story. For example, the USS Spruance was named in honor of Admiral Raymond Spruance, a legendary naval officer known as the quiet warrior. His steadfast belief in methodical preparation, education, tactics, and the application of overwhelming force where required, made him the standard for US Naval officers everywhere.
Later in his career, during the battle of Midway even though the Americans had already launched their aircraft carrier, and Spruance judged that, though the range was extreme, a strike could succeed, he famously yelled, “Launch the attack!” The rest is history.
In the instance of the Navy’s newest ship, a Arleigh Burke class vessel, tradition says the boat is to be named after U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard heroes. Guess who Obama named the Navy’s newest vessel after? One of his liberal buddies in the Senate who’s never served a day in his life. Shocked? Imagine being a servicemen at that commemoration, and hearing the reason the ship was named after Senator Levin, was for his “service, and for his commitment to the navy and military, and for his readiness.”Readiness for what exactly?

There are many people out there who feel like President Obama doesn’t have a lot of respect for the military. They make some pretty solid arguments when you consider the fact he oversaw the VA scandal where 300,000 vets died waiting for care and he has also repeatedly ignored the military advice of his top generals.
He also seems to care a lot more about his legacy and his buddies than he does about doing right by the military.
That idea was on full display recently when he decided to name a new warship not after a decorated war hero, general, or prominent politician but instead he named it after his recently retired liberal buddy in the Senate.

Navy Secretary Ray Mabus announced they will name the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer after liberal politician Carl Levin, a Michigan senator who recently retired from politics after a 31-year career.
Nearly 200 Navy and Marine Corps Medal of Honor recipients were overlooked in favor of Sen. Levin who never served in the military, thus ignoring naval guidelines and tradition.

Republicans upset over the decision noted Senator Levin served on the very committee that gutted the Navy. In fact, Levin worked to initiate a reduction of the U.S. military. The drawdown was so successful that American military leaders say the United States can no longer fight a war on two fronts, a goal that has been a key part of U.S. security strategy since WWII.
A spokesman for Navy Secretary Marbus said the ship was named after an “American hero” in Senator Levin.
According to The Washington Times, the ship newly named after the liberal politician is the only such ship — aside from the Winston Churchill — that doesn’t conform to the guidelines. “Most Arleigh Burke honorees are naval war heroes,” wrote the Times. “A significant number earned the Medal of Honor. There are several Navy secretaries.”
American hero?
I don’t know about all that.
I would say that we could probably think of a few people in uniform who were bigger heroes than Senator Levin who was one of the most partisan liberal senators in recent memory and had nothing to do with the military other than trying to gut it.
This completely goes against Navy precedent and just shows you once again that this administration is only looking out for the people on their team.
