Earlier this week, world’s largest Laptop manufacturer, Lenovo added new members into its famous ThinkPad lineup, P50 and P70. Unveiled at SIGGRAPH 2015, the new machines feature a nice set of specs, power up by Intel’s first mobile Xenon processors, and offer RAM expandability up to a whopping 64 gigs. Dubbed as mobile workstations due their specs and size, the new P50 and P70 pack a real punch, and stand as a perfect fit for the high-end market.
The new ThinkPad P70 comes with an incredible set of specs, and sports a 17-inch full-HD display supporting 4k video playback. It houses Intel’s first of-its-kind, Xenon E3-1500M v processor with four cores, and supports up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM. This machine also boasts an on-board Nvidia Quadro graphics card, but its model number and memory has not been detailed by the company.
ThinkPad P70 can connect up to 4 external storage devices in one go. It packs 1 TeraByte SSD or 2TeraByte HDD Type storage, and ships with two USB-Type C Thunderbolt 3 ports for instant data transfer without any glitches.
The powerful ThinkPad P50, on the other side, features a smaller 15.6-inch display with 4k video playback capabilities. Apart from screen-size, all elements packed with this machine go completely in line with the bigger P70 laptop. It’s the smaller avatar of P70, and weighs just around at 2.5Kgs with a 4-cell 66Whr Battery. P70, on the other hand, is heavier at 3.4 Kgs and ships with a bigger 8-cell 96WHr battery. DVD-RW drive also comes as an optional choice with the elder sibling.
The Two laptops are the first ones to feature Intel’s latest mobile Xeon processors. The sixth generation of Xeon chipset has been specifically designed on the same 14nm process for improved performance, stability, and power. These machines pack real power for top-notch performance certain cater professional and home-based requirements with no issues at all.
As far as software is considered, ThinkPad P50 and P70 ship with a number of operating systems including, the latest Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 7 and Linux-based Ubuntu OS. In US, P50 and P70 will hit the shelves later this year at $1,599 (approximately Rs. 104,000) and $1,999 (approximately Rs. 1,30,000).
