Leading smartphone manufacturer, Samsung has finally unveiled its Note Phablet in the global arena. The company, at its Galaxy Unpacked event, launched Note 5 and its dual-edge avatar, Galaxy S6 Edge+. Both devices flaunt an amazing set of specs, and will begin to hit selected markets by the end of this month. In September, these phones will be available in all other markets too.
Just like Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge+, the new Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ feature identical specs, but with different displays. On one hand, Galaxy Note 5 ships with an improved S Pen, while on the other, the Galaxy S6 Edge+ boasts a dual edge display, but with a bigger scree size.
Both smartphones sport 5.7-inch Quad-HD Super AMOLED displays with a pixel density of 515ppi. They run Android 5.1 Lollipop out-of-the box, and power up by company’s own 64-bit Exynos Octa 7420 chip, coupled with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM.
The camera capabilities of this duo includes a 16-megapixel rear autofocus camera with optical image stabilization and f/1.9 aperture, and 5-megapixel front-facing snapper, the same one from Galaxy S6. Both devices will be coming in 32GB and 64GB avatars with no microSD card slots. In US markets, the 32GB and 64GB variants of Note 5 will come at $739.99 (approximately Rs. 48,400) and $839.99 (approximately Rs. 54,800) via AT&T, and the same for Galaxy S6 Edge+ will come at $814.99 (approximately Rs. 53,300) and $914.99 (approximately Rs. 59,800).
On the connectivity front, Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+ feature standard support with options like Bluetooth v4.2, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, 3G HSPA+, and Micro-USB 2.0. The two phones will be coming with Cat.9 or Cat.6 LTE modems depending upon different markets, and will also feature NFC and MST options to support Samsung’s Pay, company’s latest mobile payment technology.
The home button featured on the front-panel of Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Note 5 sports a fingerprint sensor for toggling different functionalities. Galaxy S6 Edge+ tips on the scale at 6.9mm and weighs 153 grams, while Note 5 is bit thicker and heavier with 7.6mm thickness and 171 grams of weight. Both phones house a non-removable 3000mAh battery and support fast charging on wired and wireless options. They’ll be shipping in a bunch of colors including, Black Sapphire, Silver Titanium, White pearl, and Gold platinum.
