China’s leading smartphone vendor, Xiaomi launched MIUI 7 alongside two new phones, Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Prime. Both phones pack a decent set of specs, and will hit the Chinese market real soon at tempting price tags. The new Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Prime with 4G capabilities will be coming at CNY 899 (approximately Rs. 9,000) and CNY 999 (approximately Rs. 10,000), while the 3G variant of the Redmi Note 2 will come at CNY 799 (approximately Rs. 8,000). The availability of these big-screen devices in other markets has not been detailed by the company.
Running Android 5.0 Lollipop-based MIUI 7, Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 prime feature an amazing set of specs. Both devices look completely identical, but Note 2 Prime ships with a faster processor and 32GB built-in memory. Both phones, along with the 3G variant of Note 2 sport 5.5-inch Full-HD displays, and power up by MediaTek Helio X10 chipset with eight cores, clubbed with 2GB of RAM. The processor of Redmi Note 2 has been clocked at 2GHz, while Redmi Note 2 comes with a faster processor clocked at 2.2GHz.
The camera capabilities of Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Prime is supported by a superb 13-megapixel rear autofocus shooter with f2.2 aperture and 5-element lens, and a powerful 5-megapixel front-facing snapper with OmniVision sensor. The duo has been equipped with 16GB and 32GB internal memory, but there has no word about on expansion via micro-SD card.
On the connectivity front, Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Prime offer standard support with a bunch of options like, 3G HSPA+, GPRS/EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, infrared, and micro-USB 2.0. The two 4G phones are compatible with Band 3 and Band 40 currently deployed in India, and offer decent browsing experience on different networks. They pack several sensors (accelerometer, proximity sensor, gyroscope, and ambient light sensor), and are perfectly backed by 3060mAh battery with quick charge support.
Physically, Redmi Note 2 is slimmer and lighter than Redmi Note 2 Prime. It weighs around 160 grams and measures 152x76x8.25mm, while the Redmi Note 2 Prime weighs at a hefty 199 grams and measures 154×78.7×9.5mm. Both phones pack dual-sim capabilities on both sim slots.
