Blackberry Priv Android Smartphone to be Launched by the end of 2015

After several leaks and rumors, BlackBerry has finally confirmed the launch of its first-ever Android slider smartphone, Priv. Dubbed as Venice initially, the android powered smartphone will hitting the shelves soon by the end of 2015.

In its latest earnings report, the Canadian company revealed a massive quarterly loss and claimed to return into profitability by the fourth quarter. It’s Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, John Chen announced to make BlackBerry Priv available in major in-store and online markets by the end of the year. He further added that the company will release more details about the new slider in coming weeks.

Along with this, BlackBerry also revealed its device roadmap for the year. The list featured some impressive phones including the star of the show Priv Android smartphone. It will be the first Android based-smartphone from the company, and is expected to bring an incredible set of features with extreme security levels.

According to recent leaks, the long-rumored BlackBerry Priv, is expected to show up with a 5.4-inch Quad-HD display, powered by a Snapdragon 808 chipset with six cores clocked at 1.8GHz, coupled with 3GB of RAM. There is no word on its storage, but as for camera, the device is likely to feature a superb 18-megapixel rear autofocus camera, and a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter with wide-angle lens.

Not long before, the slider smartphone was caught in a hands on video from Android Authority. It looked fairly well crafted, featured equally distributed weight across screen and keyboard, and possessed some cool new additions from BB10 such as, Tap-to-wake, BlackBerry Device Search, and BlackBerry Hub.

The company has also confirmed to add support for Android for Work on the BES12 platform for enterprise customers. As reported earlier, it will bring some incredible security benefits for enterprise users, and will also push a major upgrade for BlackBerry 10 users. The new update with version 10.3.3, will bring security and privacy upgrades, and will roll out globally in March 2016.

As for the BlackBerry Priv, it still remains to be seen, what’s coming in next few weeks. The phone looks extremely impressive from outside, but innards will also play significant part in defining the real value of BlackBerry’s first-ever Android smartphone.
